Claudio Lodati - Maurizio Brunod: Reunion

Maurizio Brunod è stato allievo di Claudio Lodati e in qualche modo, in questo ennesimo disco in duo (il loro terzo per la precisione) i due rafforzano una partnership nata sotto il segno della didattica per poi spostarsi in area progettuale vera e propria.

Lodati, torinese del 1954, si dedica in questo album alla chitarra elettrica e alle manipolazioni elettroniche, lasciando a Brunod (più giovane di quattordici anni e nato ad Ivrea) la chitarra acustica e quella classica. Per mettere assieme suoni con dinamiche così disparate serve un sapiente dosaggio dei livelli e i due piemontesi dimostrano di saper abilmente risolvere questo primo problema, non così indifferente come potrebbe sembrare.

Poi, ed è una conseguenza diretta, c'è da affrontare il problema dei linguaggi e dei ruoli. E anche qui i due chitarristi dimostrano di sapersela cavarsela a dovere. Il repertorio è diviso in modo sostanzialmente equo, con una prevalenza di Lodati. Le composizioni sono ben strutturate e variegate, con una sensibile deriva in direzione intimista.

Nel solismo di Lodati fa capolino una vena che richiama le escursioni nervose di John McLaughlin e di Larry Coryell della fine degli anni sessanta, mentre Brunod sembra rifarsi a chitarristi più recenti e melodici. Emergono anche piccole isole quasi folk che riportano lo scenario in aree più vicine a noi e alla nostra tradizione, senza esagerare.
