Virtuoso del contrabbasso, didatta e libero improvvisatore, il cinquantenne artista svizzero ha vissuto a Roma per quindici anni e ha collaborato con numerosi musicisti italiani, tra i quali Giancarlo Schiaffini che scrive le note di copertina di questo particolare lavoro in solitudine (la traduzione del titolo è "Attriti").

Studer, che si muove in numerosi ambiti della musica contemporanea, presenta qui una serie di composizioni ciascuna delle quali è dedicata alla ricerca e allo sviluppo di specifici stilemi dello strumento, senza però che questo generi una "lista di esempi," bensì dando vita a un lavoro ricco di idee improvvisative, di varietà e di passaggi coinvolgenti.

Per realizzare un lavoro di sicura arditezza Studer utilizza anche registrazioni multiple ed elettronica (in particolare nella traccia conclusiva, risalente al 1998), ma il risultato è comunque molto "acustico" e naturale. Certo, siamo di fronte a un'opera di improvvisazione contemporanea, che articola forme espressive estreme, rumori e silenzi ben più che narrazioni o spunti melodici. Ma la ricerca di Studer è profonda, così come il suo rapporto con il contrabbasso: per gli appassionati del genere e/o dello strumento il CD è di sicuro interesse.
