Particolarmente attenta, fra le tante, alla cultura musicale dell'Azerbaijan, come testimoniato da un paio di recenti CD dedicati al mugham, la Felmay centra questo nuovo volume collettivo sulla realtà degli Ashiq, cantastorie nomadi che costituiscono l'altro grande ceppo (peraltro non senza diverse convergenze) della musica azera. Il nucleo centrale della prima coppia di brani è il medesimo (una sola variante, nell'organico) e torna ancora nell'undicesimo titolo ("Nar Agaji") a sostegno di un diverso solista (prima Aqamurad Israfilov, poi Aytekin Akbarova, in entrambi i casi voce e saz), mentre per il resto ogni brano (o al massimo la coppia, come accade nel quarto e quinto titolo) fa storia a sé, anche se è il discorso complessivo quello che, per forza di cose, conta principalmente, a documentare appunto un'entità ben definita. Come quasi sempre accade in contesti del genere, si respira un clima fortemente ritualistico, spesso felicemente evocativo (altrove un po' troppo monolitico), dove il canto tende a farsi invocazione (pur su tematiche variegate, non necessariamente religiose), talora quasi declamazione, anche se non mancano gli episodi puramente strumentali (quattro, nello specifico, tutti per saz solo). A conti fatti, un ulteriore, prezioso documento che non potrà che ingolosire i cultori del ramo.
