Phil Grenadier - Bruno Raberg Duo: Plunge

Se si escludono "Lonely Woman" di Ornette Coleman e "The Outermost Island" di Bruno Raberg la musica contenuta in Plunge è completamente improvvisata. In alcuni casi - "Area 51," "Triangulum," "Quadratic" - doppiamente improvvisata visto che Raberg al contrabbasso e Phil Granadier alla tromba interagiscono con la registrazione sviluppando nuovi spunti e tracciando nuove linee narrative. Il tutto con spirito e cuore aperto in un clima di grande intimità e rilassatezza lontana da cliché e sirene commerciali, semplicemente alla ricerca della bellezza e della profondità di pensiero.

Buona parte delle tracce sono vere e proprie miniature che non superano i due minuti di durata, pensieri fugaci colti al volo nella loro manifestazione primordiale, embrioni che sta all'ascoltatore cogliere nella loro essenza e sviluppare con la propria fantasia. Le altre hanno forma più compiuta, si intravede un filo narrativo anche se mai completamente sviluppato per salvaguardare la libertà d'interpretazione, si infittiscono i punti di riferimento.

Il tutto subisce in fase di produzione leggere manipolazioni e misurati utilizzi di effetti che amplificano suggestioni e paesaggi sonori. Splendida la versione del capolavoro di Ornette, quasi sette minuti di puro incanto, con l'atmosfera resa misteriosa da un geniale uso dello spazio, la melodia che si insinua sotto pelle, i brividi che corrono lungo la schiena. Raberg e Granadier realizzano con Plunge una scultura sonora che gira alla larga da possibili derive intellettualistiche e privilegia sentimento e cuore.
