Wadada Leo Smith: Najwa

Read "Najwa" reviewed by Jerome Wilson

Wadada Leo Smith has been on an amazingly productive streak the last few years, creating ambitious work for all kinds of configurations, large orchestras, string ensembles, quartets, duos and solo. About the only format he hadn't explored lately was the dense electronic jazz-rock he's played in the past with his groups Organic and Yo! Miles. With ...

New Album of Grooves and Jazz from Organic - "The Right Thing"

"An energetic outing, which whilst looking to the past is firmly based in the here and now, with some excellent ensemble playing and some beefy solos. This should be no surprise, as guitarist (and vocalist) Henry Johnson is at the helm of a seamless rhythm section. The recording was made with no overdubs and was ...

Henry Johnson/Nancy Wilson: Organic

Read "Organic" reviewed by Franz A. Matzner

A soft endeavor, Organic may be a return to the basics (as the liner notes claim), but that return is a rather bland one which makes one question just which basics were being considered. A spattering of blues elements may surface here and there, and traces of '30s-era torch singing are in evidence, but the main ...

Acoustic Jazz Quartet: Organic

Read "Organic" reviewed by C. Michael Bailey

"Organic Unity" the approximate center point of the Acoustic Jazz Quartet’s new recording Organic, fairly well sums up in an aural sense the constantly evolving vision of this fine West Coast quartet. This slightly Bossa piece shows exactly how far an already superb quartet has come since its previous release, Acoustic Jazz Quartet (Naxos Jazz 86033, ...
