Walter Fischbacher

Born:

Versatile pianist and keyboardist Walter Fischbacher can best be described as the groove master of keys. Having mastered both pianistic technique and the art of the backbeat he has set out to conquer the world with his trio. A native Austrian, he relocated to New York after intense studies of classical and jazz piano in Vienna. He refined his art at the renown Mannes College and the New School Jazz Department. In addition to some arduous and exhilarating years as a solo pianist to the left of the New York Empire Diner's toilet, Walter worked as a sideman with George Garzone, Tim Levebvre, Joel Rosenblatt, Ric Fierabracci, Chico Freeman, Billy Harper, Charles Tolliver, Frank Foster, Vienna Art Orchestra, Ingrid Jensen, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Gary Dial, Jamie Haddad, Peter Herbert, Corin Curschellas, Elisabeth Lohninger etc

Beat Kaestli: Beat Kaestli: Live in Europe

Read "Beat Kaestli: Live in Europe" reviewed by C. Michael Bailey

In my humble estimation, there are two ballad singers (living) without peer: Rebecca Parris and Beat Kaestli. The latter has had a string of recent recordings that are as innovative as they are entertaining, including: Happy, Sad And Satisfied (B&B Productions, 2005), Invitation (Chesky Records, 2010), and Collage (B&B Productions, 2014). Kaestli sneaks ...

The traditional jazz piano trio (piano, double bass and drums) remains a robust and productive format for jazz performance and interpretation. Here are three examples supporting this. Five Golden Rings for Christmas

Read "Five Golden Rings for Christmas" reviewed by C. Michael Bailey

The 2011 holidays are nearly upon us and with them, the requisite focused recordings. The number of such offerings has diminished in the last number of years. What has not diminished is the quality of the recordings, as evidenced by these five “golden rings." Happy holidays, jazz fans. Elisabeth Lohninger Band
