FAT: #awesome

Read "#awesome" reviewed by John Kelman

While the appropriately titled #awesome represents Alex Machacek's third album in six years with his (similarly witty and self-effacingly monikered) FAT (Fabulous Austrian Trio), this trifecta of virtuosic Austrian musicians goes much further back. Both bassist Raphael Preuschl and drummer Herbert Pirker appeared on roughly half of the expat-Austrian/Los Angeles-based guitarist's acclaimed 2006 Abstract Logix debut, ...

Leonardo Pavkovic: Nothing is Ordinary

Read "Leonardo Pavkovic: Nothing is Ordinary" reviewed by Chris M. Slawecki

More than any other person, Leonardo Pavkovic has made me write some crazy shit.

Pavkovic is the primal force behind the joyously eclectic MoonJune Records, which he established in 2001. “Established" may not be the right word: “I am truly an unusual and rules breaking call-it-record-company with a 'label' identity despite the fact that ...

John McLaughlin on the Mystery of Creativity, Inspiration, & Music

Read "John McLaughlin on the Mystery of Creativity, Inspiration, & Music" reviewed by Alan Bryson

Improvised music within a sophisticated framework is one if the primary hallmarks of jazz. World class improvisation requires split second reactions, mental agility, dexterity, and the emotive soul of an artist. As a testament to his age defying vitality, on January 29, 2018 at the age of 76, John McLaughlin won a Grammy® Award for the ...

Allan Holdsworth: Eidolon

Read "Eidolon" reviewed by Maurizio Comandini

Gary Husband: A Meeting Of Spirits

Read "A Meeting Of Spirits" reviewed by Roger Farbey

Pianist and percussionist Gary Husband is one of the world's most gifted musicians. It would be more accurate to say that he is not merely supremely talented but also a true virtuoso of both drums and keyboards. He played on John McLaughlin's Industrial Zen, released in 2006 and with the guitarist's 4th Dimension since its 2010 ...

John McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension: Live at Ronnie Scott's

Read "Live at Ronnie Scott's" reviewed by Geno Thackara

Music has taken him and his guitar to some of the most exotic far reaches of the world, but Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club will always have a special place in John McLaughlin's heart. His mid-1960s time in the famous jny: London venue's house band was a key early step in his musical life, and he idly ...
