Dominique Fils-Aimé
Dominique Fils-Aimé is a Polaris Music prize-nominated singer-songwriter from Montreal who draws inspiration from soul icons of the 40’s and 60’s such as Billie Holiday, Etta James, and Nina Simone. While her musical roots are grounded in early soul and jazz, her voice transcends contemporary urban soundscapes.
Moving on from her 2018 acclaimed debut full length blues-tinged Nameless —which boldly confronted historical silences and sorrows— Stay Tuned! (2019, Ensoul Records) is both a call for and reminder of revolution expressed with the fury of red-hot jazz. Wanting to break away from the standards of traditional compositions, Dominique presents a body of work focused on liberating herself from musical forms.
The album won the Félix prize for Best Jazz Album at the 2019 ADISQ gala and was chosen among the 19 best Canadian albums of 2019 according to CBC
