Chuck Manning

About Me

The Chuck Manning Quartet Featuring: Jim Szilagyi, Piano; Isla Eckinger, Bass; Tim Pleasant, Drums; Chuck, Tenor and Soprano Saxophone Chuck is one of the busiest jazz saxophonists in Southern California. He has been performing and recording for the past twenty-five years with many local ensembles and jazz artists in the L.A. area, across the country and in Europe. He is a longtime member of the Los Angeles Jazz Quartet and co-leader of the Eckinger-Manning Quintet. The Chuck Manning Quartet was recently featured on National Public Radio’s “Jazz Set with Branford Marsalis”. Chuck has recently recorded and toured with drummer Alphonse Mouzon, and is a regular member of the Bobby Bradford Mo’tet, the Sal Marquez quintet and others.

“Essential listening for any local jazz listener. Manning is a fine inventive tenor player. With Joe Henderson as his baseline, he plays a gorgeous ballad, can blow some brilliant and slightly understated post-bob frenzy, and can lay out the bop lines fresh. His band is a great one, with Jim Szilagyi often matching him idea for idea. Drummer Tim Pleasant’s understated tapping and tippling and cymbal washes defy the written word. And this quartet’s unreleased album, Manning debut as a leader, is a great one.” - Brick Wahl, LAWeekly, December 22, 2006
