About Me
I played Jazz in New York City, Paris France and Frankfurt Germany from 1949 through
1962 at Nick's, Melody Lounge, Central Plaza, Cinderella Club, Kit Kat Club, JazKeller,
Vieux Colombier, etc., with Coleman Hawkins, Roy Eldridge, Sidney Bechet, Chuck Traeger,
Phil Napoleon, Billy Maxted, Gene Schroeder, Pee Wee Erwin, Johnny Windhurst, Jack Fine,
Yank Lawson, Bob Haggart and others.
I left music in 1963 for a day gig. Then in 1992 started to play again. Now gig 160 times a
year in the Philadelphia area with my own band, The Barbone Street Jazz Band. Some top
gigs have included; West Chester University Jazz Festival, Berks Jazz Festival, Media
Jazz Festival, Media Blues Festival, Dover Downs Wine & Jazz Festival, Clifford Brown Jazz
Festival, Rehoboth Jazz Festival and the Red Sea Jazz Festival in Israel.
We've played on stage with Preservation Hall and Dirty Dozen Brass bands, and shared
billing with some of the top jazz bands/players in the world such as Wynton Maralis,
Lincoln Center Jazz Band, Herbie Hancock, Arturo Sandoval, Hiromi and many others.
Band average age is 70 and members have played with many jazz legends of the 20th
Century including Lester Young, Billie Holiday, Clifford Brown, Pete Fountain, Al Hirt, Peggy
Lee, Louis Prima, Ben Webster, J.J. Johnson, Kai Winding, Thelonious Monk and others. As
well as classical legends Yo Yo Ma, Artur Rubenstein, Vladimir Horowitz, Pavarotti, Isaac
Stern, Yehudi Menuin, and others.
Barbone Street is the most popular Hot Jazz Band in the Philadelphia/Wilmington area.For
