Jazz Trumpeter Kenny Rittenhouse
About Me
Trumpeter Kenny Rittenhouse has led his own jazz quartet for the past 14 years,
performing in and around the Washington, DC area. He has performed with jazz artists
drummer Ralph Peterson; saxophonists Don Braden, Buck Hill and Steve Wilson; bassists
James King, Dwayne Dolphin. He also performs regularly with The Smithsonian Jazz
Masterworks Orchestra.
In 1988 he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in trumpet performance with an emphasis in jazz
studies from West Virginia Wesleyan College. He also did graduate work in jazz studies at
The Eastman School of Music where he studied arranging under Ray Wright, and at
Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA where he studied with Roger Sherman of the
Pittsburgh Symphony and jazz saxophonist Eric Kloss. In May 2006 he earned a Masters
degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Maryland where he studied with
trumpeter Chris Gekker and performed in the UMD Jazz Ensemble directed by Chris
Vadala.
Since 1990 Kenny has been a member of The United States Army Band (Pershing’s Own) in
Washington, DC, the premier band of the army. He currently performs with The Army
Blues Jazz Ensemble.
