Alex Webb is an experienced songwriter, arranger, pianist who for a large part of
his career has worked in and around the music business – in live music
promotion, music publishing, as a music press officer and in music radio.
His songs have been performed by Charenee Wade, Allan Harris, Sandra Nkake,
China Moses, Ian Shaw, Juliet Kelly, Jo Harrop, Ayanna Witter-Johnson and many
others; they have been recorded by China Moses, Liane Carroll, David McAlmont,
Alexander Stewart, Alexia Gardner, Mina Agossi, Gena West and more.
Webb has also created and produced a series of words-and-music shows including
Strayhorn the Songwriter, Charlie Parker on Dial, Fever: Jo Harrop sings Peggy
Lee and Cafe Society Swing, which has enjoyed theatre runs in London and New
York where it won a New York Times ‘Critic’s Pick’.
Influences? All the Bs, certainly: Bach, Beethoven, Bruckner, Bessie, Billie, Basie,
Bud Powell, Chet Baker, Betty Carter, James Brown, Anita Baker, Chico Buarque,
Jacques Brel, Dee Dee Bridgewater, The Beatles … and of course Charles Hawtrey
and the Deaf Aids.
