Once a deejay, then a writer... and now a deejay AND a writer!

About Me

I am the programmer & host of “Jazz2K @ The Saint”, a weekly show on WVCR 88.3 / Albany, NY that focuses on 21st-century music. (This is definitely NOT your grandfather's jazz radio show!) I am a member of the Jazz Journalists Association, and write about jazz for Nippertown, a web site that focuses on the arts scene in and around the Capital Region of upstate New York.

My Jazz Story

I love jazz because it's the richest, deepest, most global, most non-commercial music in the universe. I was first exposed to jazz through my parents' West Coast-dominated record collection; found Miles Davis, bebop and Fusion in college; and have been searching for new things ever since. This job has provided me with the privilege of meeting and/or interviewing some truly tremendous artists. My advice to new listeners: Find the kind of jazz you like to start, but always keep your ears open, because the music is changing every day.

My House Concert Story

I attended my first House Concert EVER in July of 2019, when Yotam Silberstein and Liz Rosa Gomes were playing in a basement apartment in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. The apartment owner had been doing these shows for years, and the packed apartment was an even split between regular attendees and friends of Ms. Gomes, almost all of whom were from Brazil. As a result, you had half the crowd singing (and responding) in Portuguese. It was beautiful it was intimate, Yotam was playing acoustic guitar with a tremendously deft touch, and Liz & Yotam had a chemistry that could be felt throughout the room and out into the street. I loved it, and hope I get to have that experience again — sooner rather than later!
