J Hunter

Once a deejay, then a writer, now both -- and the future... is so uncertain.

About Me

I am the host of "Jazz2K @ The Saint", heard Midnight Saturday - 2am Sunday ET on 88.3 WVCR/Albany, NY ( I am a staff writer for the Capital Region arts site Nippertown, where I write about concerts and local artist releases.

My Jazz Story

I love jazz because it's the richest, deepest, most global, most non-commercial music in the universe. I was first exposed to jazz through my parents' West Coast-dominated record collection; found Miles Davis, bebop and Fusion in college; and have been searching for new things ever since. This job has provided me with the privilege of meeting and/or interviewing some truly tremendous artists. My advice to new listeners: Find the kind of jazz you like to start, but always keep your ears open, because the music is changing every day.

My Favorites

  1. Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
  2. Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Out
  3. John Coltrane - Live at the Village Vanuguard
