Jay Jourden

songwriter percussionist producer who has evolved into the universalist musician beyond cliches and race/religions.

About Me

Born in Ft. Worth, Texas, my mother went to school with Ornette Coleman. She evolved into a Jazz singer in the NY area with the likes of Randy Weston, Rahson Roland Kirk, Yusef Lateef, Dizzy, Billy Mitchell, Elvin Jones, Dexter Gordon, Paul Neves, and many others. These were my earlier influences. My teen friend Ricky Ford was first introduced to Roland Kirk by my mother and we are good friends. We used to hang with them everywhere on the east coast....I went to school with Niles “Azedine” Weston in the sixth grade...I expanded into many genres of music over the years and Randy Weston's African Rhythms were some of my earlier influences also...currently I'm producing commercials and getting ready to tour Europe....I'm not strictly into Jazz though it's one of my main loves....I have a complete pro LP percussion kit and can travel worldwide to perform....I'm able to play many styles and wish to sit in anywhere....contact me.............Jay Jourden: [email protected]
