About Me
Chip Shelton is a multi-faceted Jazz and Beyond artist whose performances
include Flutes, Saxes, Vocals and Percussion. His wind instrument collection are
visually and aurally unique, and include End-Blown Flutes in C and Bb, as well as
Alto, Bass, Contrabass, Piccolo, & Ethnic Flutes; antique Tenor and Soprano
Saxophones in C (ca.1928); and since 2009 he has been an endorser & player of
Yanagisawa Sopranino, Soprano, Alto, and Tenor saxophones.
Performances contain originals, standards, current, and historical repertoire, and
incorporate an element of music education with an always-accessible variety of feels
ranging from swing, shuffle, blues, waltz, 6/8, jazz funk, bossa, samba, calypso,
latin, reggae, jazz rock, jazz pop, and more.
Upcoming releases include Mentors, Plan Be Dream Music and accompanying self-
help book Excel in Two Careers...Plan Be Your Dream' for 2020; and Special Days Each Year for
2021.
Shelton's 8th CD release, Imbued With Memories, May 2008 on Summit Records, was
dubbed by producer Kenny M, our best in 10 years. Liner notes author Dr. Nick of
Sirius XM Radio's Soul Street, calls it a Masterpiece.
His 6th CD Release, PeaceTime, April 2006 on Summit, received a Top Jazz
Recording of 2006 award from Soul-Patrol.com at their annual convention in
Philadelphia in May, 2007. That same month, Summit Records released Shelton's
7th CD, titled Have Flute Will Travel, Stop 2, Cape May Jazz Festival Live!
Summit began a series of live Chip Shelton releases titled Have Flute Will Travel in
2004. The first in the live series was Stop 1 Berlin.
The best-known Chip Shelton recording , to date, Flute Bass-ics-featuring Ron
Carter, was not his first to climb the jazz-radio-airplay charts, but it has generated a
high volume of radio airplay, since its 2003 release, on Summit.
Shelton outings in 2019 include Howard University and Twins Jazz Club performances, Washington,
DC; and, Performance-Workshops at the Annual Conventions of The National Flute Association in
Salt Lake City, Ut., and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in Las Vegas, Nev.
Memorable past Chip Shelton appearances include A-Trane Jazz Club-Berlin; Nomme Jazz
Festival-Estonia featuring Ryo Kawasaki; Newark Arts Council-Annual Gala featuring
Roy Meriwether and Santi Debriano; Blues Alley & Bohemian Caverns (Washington,
DC), Cecil's Jazz Club (NJ), Minton's Playhouse (Harlem, NY), and the
aforementioned Cape May Jazz Festival (NJ shore), featuring Doug Carn and Lou
Volpe. 2016 found Shelton opening the 3 day Catskills Jazz Festival, NY; and
performing Fest Jazz (Brittany France), as well as touring Switzerland and Germany
with the Spirit of Life Ensemble.
