KALI. Z. is an internationally acclaimed composer & multi-instrumentalist (soprano sax, nai flute, piano, voice, cello, perc. & more), known for her unique innovations in World Jazz.

About Me

From a musical family, KALI. Z. FASTEAU played piano, cello, flute, and sang since early childhood in Paris and New York. After university studies of the music of Asia, Africa, 20th Century Europe and Jazz, she traveled for 14 years, living in 18 countries: India (1981-83), Turkey (1976-77), Nepal, Morocco, Senegal, Congo, Italy, Holland, France, Denmark, Belgium, Switzerland, Slovenia, Germany, Finland, Greece, Haiti, and Zimbabwe, performing for music festivals, concerts, radio, films, and university programs. Kali’s recording and performing associates include Donald Rafael Garrett, Kidd Jordan, Archie Shepp, Beaver Harris, Rashied Ali, William Parker, Hamid Drake, Andrew Cyrille, Henry Grimes, Bobby Few, Warren Smith, Newman Baker, Sabir Mateen and Oscar Brown III, among many. Kali. Z. led ensembles playing her original music at New York’s Town Hall, Lincoln Center and Guggenheim Museum, Museum of Modern Art in Paris, Museum Theatre in Chennai, India, and thousands of other noted venues worldwide.
