Elaine Lucia

"You will remember this voice."

About Me

Elaine Lucia - Biography by Scott Yanow

Elaine Lucia has a beautiful, high and clear voice that is versatile, quite powerful and perfectly fits her swinging style.

As a young teen, she won a summer music scholarship to attend the Chautauqua Institute for the Arts and, after graduating early from high school, received a theater scholarship to the State University of New York at Binghamton (now Binghamton University). She soon switched her focus from theater back to music. Two years later, Elaine transferred to the Eastman School of Music on a vocal scholarship.

Elaine sold her flute and bought a one way ticket to the San Francisco Bay Area after federal grant money that made up part of her Eastman scholarship was cut. Unable to make up the difference and finish her final year of study, she planned to work for a year and return to school. Instead, she immediately became immersed in the music scene of Northern California, singing with rock, country, folk and theater groups, before returning to her jazz roots and forming her own ensemble of veteran jazz players.

Since moving to the Bay Area, she has appeared at nightclubs and festivals in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, San Diego, Reno and Lake Tahoe areas for many years, gathering a solid following among fans and musicians alike. A veteran studio singer, she has recorded hundreds of songs in many different genres. Besides her jazz vocal work, Elaine has played guitar since adolescence, and is a singer/songwriter, performing and recording her own compositions.

Elaine's band includes: Jonathan Alford, piano; Pierre Archain, bass; Alan Hall, drums; Randy Vincent, guitar; and Gerry Grosz, vibes. The group has been performing together, in various configurations, for over 14 years.
