My Jazz Story

I met Dizzy Gillespie in 1961, at The Metropole in NYC. He sat down next to me and we talked for 20 minutes. He bought me a drink, signed the menu card and I still have it. Watching him play (and hearing it) was fascinating. On the same bill was Jack Teagarden, and I seem to recall that Clark Terry was there too. I might be remembering him from a performance by Louis Armstrong in Virginia Beach in 1964, I think. I have loved Jazz since I heard Take Five on the juke box at my college snack bar.
