My Jazz Story

I love jazz because you just let it happen to experience the ultimate in challenge and creativity. I was first exposed to jazz when I was 12 years old and my father played me his collection of recordings from the 20's and 30's. I met Dizzy Gillespie, Pat Metheny, Lyle Mays, Wayne Shorter and Jack De Johnette, among many luminaries of the jazz world. The best show I ever attended was Montreux Jazz Festival in 1996. The first jazz record I bought was Kind of Blue by an illustrious collection of jazz artists of the period led by Miles Davis. My advice to new listeners is to have an open and unfettered mind when listening to all music. There's no bad art; just bad judgement of art. I do not have to like it for it to be valid.
