My Jazz Story

I love jazz because it kept me off the streets during those crucial teenage years, while Mozart couldn't. I was first exposed to jazz while listening to Erroll Garner in my folks' car. I met Shelby Lynne and was tongue tied for some reason. The best show(s) I ever attended were... Buddy Tate with Milt Buckner (1970), Lionel Hampton (1972), Peter Gabriel (1977), The Police (1978) and Keith Jarrett solo (1986). The first jazz record I bought was Juju (Wayne Shorter). My advice to new listeners... listen to the big ideas, the drama, the story lines, don't fret the details, that's musician stuff.
