PH Affinity Productions
PH AFFINITY PRODUCTIONS is the creative production house of guitarist-composer Johnny Alegre, jazz journeyman and recording artist from the Philippines.
Juan Bautista H. Alegre (III) attended the University of the Philippines College of Music in the latter 1970s, studied composition and was a founding member of the U.P. Jazz Ensemble. In 2002, he formed Manila’s premier jazz collective, AFFINITY, that caught the attention of the London-based jazz specialty label, Candid Records. The group's eponymous first album was released in the Philippines in mid-2005 and in the U.K. the following year, retitled as “Jazzhound”. His introduction to a mainstream American jazz audience occurred at Hollywood’s Catalina Bar in 2007 that earned a favorable notice in the Los Angeles Times. In 2008, Candid Records released Alegre's second album, “Eastern Skies”, a collaboration with the Global Studio Orchestra conducted by Gerard Salonga. This was matched in 2009 by MCA-Universal's release of "Johnny Alegre 3", a breakthrough recording by the guitarist-composer with American jazz masters, Ron McClure and Billy Hart. Presently, Alegre is at work on "Humanfolk", a suite of his world music compositions and the subsequent concept band named after it that performs a hybrid of jazz structures, electronica and indigenous Philippine gongs and bamboo instruments.
