Michael Evdemon

Bass Guitar Artist - Composer - Writer

About Me

Michael was born in Athens. He was a student of Giotis kiourtzoglou, George Fakanas and Anthony Jackson. He has participated in clinics from Tom kenedy, Victor Wooten, Mike Stern to Billy Sheehan and many more.

But most of his knowledge on harmony, theory and technique was developed by his own effort. His method and way of thinking are embossed in his book “The Organization of the Musical Information”. The book is actually a guide for organizing and realizing the learning process through the combination of the scientific truths regarding the way our brain works and the deep understanding of how the instrument (bass) is used in order to express feelings.

He has collaborated as a session musician with Marinela, Kostas Hatzis, Kostas Karaphotis, Natassa Theodoridou, Christo Thivaio, Yiorgo Theofanous, Alex Foster and many more. He has toured all over Greece, played for most of the theaters in the country, participated in big musicals and experimental theatrical performances. He has toured in the U.S. (New York, Chicago, Atlantic City and Boston); he also has played in theaters at Istanbul, UK and Cyprus.

He has participated in numerous jazz bands where he has written music for and performed in most of the jazz festivals in Greece. He has written music for John Raptis group: The Circle (2005), Jazznovation (2008), O3 jazz trio: Supercharged (2013) and now for the Good Demons.

He also gigs with Irene Ketikidi Band, a phenomenal rock guitar player based in the UK.

He teaches El. Bass at the Modern Music School of Athens.

He writes articles for his blog and he is very active in collaborating with numerous jazz musicians while he also conducts educational seminars.

Michael is endorsed by Gamma Guitar Workshop and Jam Pedals.

My Jazz Story

I love jazz because, jazz is important. It is a true battle between the deep and liberating truth against the effortless fast-food-like entrainment that cares to temporarily irritate people’s primitive instincts. While the true art, is to arouse the deep intellect and transcend the wants and needs of the skin. I was first exposed to jazz at the age of 16. I met Anthony Jackson and had some lessons that changed my approach on the bass. I also have played with Alex Foster the saxophone player and learned a lot from him. The best show I ever attended was Chick Corea and the Electric Band, Live in Athens, Lycabetus Thaetre, 6-7-2003. The first jazz record I bought was Jaco Pastorius - Word of Mouth. My advice to new listeners is to never stop supporting and listening to the art of improvisation. It is the only way to get in touch with your heart and brain's sexuality and transcend to a higher state of intellect.
