Jazz Drummer

About Me

Experienced jazz drummer and tutor, based in Edinburgh, Scotland. I have been playing since the 1980s and I'm glad to say. still 'in demand' as a drummer for a host of instrumentalists and singers.

I play with the excellent JazzMain, singer Victoria Bennett and the vintage/vaudeville/tin pan alley sextet - Ali Affleck and Vieux Carre, but I remain available for all types of sessions

My Jazz Story

I love jazz because it gives me freedom of expression. Having performed since the early 1980s, I've gigged extensively in a variety of jazz quartets / big bands and with some exceptional musicians including Jim Mullen, the UK's top jazz guitarist, Bruce Adams, one of the UK's foremost trumpet/flugel players and tenor sax man Simon Spillett, the man who keeps the music of Tubby Hayes very much alive. I was first exposed to jazz from the minute I was aware of my surroundings. My father was a professional jazz pianist I met Harry Connick, Jr. The best show I ever attended was Tony Bennett. The first jazz record I bought was Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Out. My advice to new listeners: never stop expanding your horizons.

My House Concert Story

I run a weekly jazz club in Edinburgh, Scotland. Whighams Jazz Club started in 2009 and continues to attract the feam of local, national and international musicians. We've played host to a roll call of BIG names - Herb Geller, Liane Carroll, Tamir Hendelman, Brian Kellock, Simon Spillett, Louis Stewart, Jim Mullen, Zoe Francis and so many more. We run every Sunday evening from 7:30-10pm and once a month host a fantastic jazz jam and open mic session, brimming with our local jazz talent.
