My Jazz Story

I grew up listening to jazz music early on as a child. It was during the mid 1960's, when I was eight, when my father and mother, both jazz enthusiasts, would enjoy a family evening of playing jazz records. It was later in my college years that I found photos of my parents partying at Chicago's infamous Club DeLisa. As a teenager, the jazz music I had grew up on, morphed into a new music genre called 'jazz fusion', embraced by artists like Norman Connors, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Pharoah Sanders, Stanley Clark, Sergio Mendes and Chick Corea. And today, jazz music continues to evolve with the main stream popularity of radio's 'smooth jazz' format. As an All That Jazz Contributor, I will review newly released CD's and preview upcoming jazz concerts in and around the Chicagoland area. I am excited to be a part of a growing jazz internet magazine like All About Jazz. In my upcoming articles, I will acknowledge the artist and the masterful tracks of the 'jazz of old', as well as showcase the best of today's new jazz.
