My Jazz Story

I love jazz because... it's about letting go and freely expressing in the moment. I was first exposed to jazz... by my dad in the 70's. I met pianist Herbie Hancock when I was 22 at a jam session at the China Club NYC. The best show I ever attended was... a recent Herbie Hancock show in NY, and Chick Corea around 1980. The first jazz record I bought was... Chick Corea "Light As A Feather". My advice to new listeners... be open minded and not a Jazz snob, know history, and seek out the underground jazz scenes in culturally rich cities like New York. I don't love all Jazz, but what I do appreciate is the universal language and spirit that it has created for all the musicians and listeners who enjoy the music.
