Thomas Barth, pianist & composer from Vienna/ Austria
About Me
Thomas Barth was born in Vienna in 1965. He studied piano and composition in
Austria, Denmark and the USA including master classes with Herbie Hancock at
the Mozarteum/ Salzburg 1987 and with „Weather Report“ founder Joe Zawinul
at the „Wiener Meisterkurse“, Vienna 1992.
Studio/ Live collaborations including Beat4Feet , Stray Dog Music, Electric
Diamond (with Stuart Diamond, Don Slepian and Karen Bentley-Pollick), Brand
Nubian, Deodato (Vienna Jazz Festival 2002, State Opera) and his own projects
in Vienna and New York.
Since Sommer 2014 Barth is a permanent member of „Jazztrio.at“ (Thomas
Barth, p; Christoph Petschina resp. Johannes Strasser, bass; Wolfgang Wehner,
drums). CD’s: „Weihnachtsalbum“ (2015), „Sommeralbum“ (release: Sommer
2016).
Releases as a leader:
2001: „Seven Worlds“, featuring Mike Stern, Craig Handy, Gerald Veasley, Mike
Baker and Evan Tate, rec. in NYC (Jive Music, www.jivemusic.at).
2003: „Beyond Black & White“ Solo Piano 2 CDs, rec. in Austria (Diversity
Recordings, beat4feet music Austria).
Other works (excerpts): Film music for the 95 min. documentary „Wer hat Angst
vor Wilhelm Reich“/ „Who is afraid of Wilhelm Reich“ (2009, directed by Antonin
Svoboda).
Other: Since 2012, Barth holds a doctorate in psychotherapy sciences from
Sigmund Freud Privatuniversität Vienna (SFU) and runs a psychotherapy practice
(method: Psychoanalysis) in 1090 Vienna (www.drbarth.at).
