Tony Adamo & Mike Clark – Rollin’ To #1

About Me

5 STARS/ALLABOUTJAZZ ”Tony Adamo and the New York Crew is a romp—a fascinating and swinging vision seen through the hippest and most talented of Ray-Bans. Double dig?”

5 STARS/AMAZON ”For this album Tony and his Crew deliver what is essentially eleven short films, each one painting a stunningly visual portrait of a fascinating world and some of its most captivating and compelling denizens. Driven on a soundtrack of explosively spirited and utterly delightful music, the spectacularly imaginative screenplay is depicted through a prism that Tony Adamo calls Vocal/HipSpokenWord.”

5 STARS/ IMPROVIJAZZATION ”Tony & th’ players definitely know how to convey that PHONK & keep it from ever draggin’ ya’ down (no matter how blues it gets); my personal favorite, to be sure! Tony’s GOT that soul & ain’t afraid to pass it on to ya’…. I give him a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with a (perfect) “EQ” (energy quotient) of 5.00… which means it also get the “PICK” of this YEAR for “best hip jazz”!

“Tony Adamo harkens back to a day that, for most modern listeners, never was: a time in the 50s and 60s when a small but influential cast of artists in jazz, poetry and movies oozed a dangerous, irresistible force that men admired and women wanted. The Rat Pack sort of had it, but for each Sinatra or Martin, there were hundreds of underground artists who lived more dangerously and closer to their creative edge. With jazz as the centerpiece, Adamo effortlessly visits this universe (“Just ride your thought on that groove…are you with me?”) where performers are “cats” that their fans “dig” or even “double dig”; where hipster artists “swing” with the beat, and music is a near religious experience for those immersed naturally or through chemical” — SOULTRACKS

“TONY ADAMO & the New York Crew: Delightfully angular contemporary urban stuff that's played just right and making you think this is a soundtrack to an unmade Spike Lee pic that should be made. Crazy hip stuff for a new generation of hipsters that don't want to go around looking like steam punks. And the host of well established jazzbos on board here are just going to blow your mind.” — MIDWEST RECORD

My Jazz Story

I grew up diggin' boxing, baseball and riding my bike with my dog prince along side. Jazz was not even a way out thought. Soul and rock music had me hooked. The summer of my 7th grade my music head was turned inside out. That's when my ears got hip to the sounds of Dave Brubeck's "Take Five" and Trane's "My Favorite Things". The road show of my life was forever set with jazz as my soundtrack. Ya dig?
