JESSICA LURIE (SAXOPHONES /FLUTE / VOICE/ ELECTRONICS ) is a multi-instrumentalist performer, composer, producer and teaching artist based in Brooklyn, NY and Seattle, WA. She embraces a wide range of musical influences, including funk, rhythmic folk musics and improvisation-heavy jazz with a dose of free-wheeling avant-groove-meets-grind. She leads the Jessica Lurie Ensemble, Tiptons Sax Quartet & Drums, Living Daylights, Sofie Salonika, FreEthiopiques, and Slingshot with Seattle violist Heather Bentley. Jessica has released over 40 critically acclaimed albums as bandleader, lead composer or collaborator, and has performed with international artists such as John Zorn, Devotchka, Taylor Mac, Nikki Glaspie, Nels Cline, Col. Bruce Hampton, Helen Gillet, Fred Frith, Bill Frisell, Shaking Ray Levis, Amy Denio, Mark Ribot, Percussia Ensemble, Frank London, Allison Miller, James Brandon Lewis and Great Small Works. She is a Sundance Composers’ Fellow and Downbeat “Rising Star for Alto Sax” nominee (2016, 2018, 2021). Recent productions Jessica has worked on include Taylor Mac’s “The Hang; “ the Tiptons’ “Mujer o Bruja”; Mars Williams’ Devil’s Whistle in New Orleans and Jessica’s own Shofar Meditations. www.jessicalurie.com Collaborations with international artists include: Fred Frith, Taylor Mac, Billy Martin, Skerik, John Zorn, Cyro Baptista, OU, Todd Sickafoose, David Krakauer, Bill Frisell, Jenny Scheinman, Chris Cochrane, Henry Butler, Matt Dario, Robert Dick, Jamie Baum, Joe Doria’s McTuff, The Indigo Girls, Mark Ribot, Henry Butler, Eyvind Kang, Karl Denson, Frank London, Allison Miller,  Vinicio Caposella, Nels Cline, Amy Denio, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, Kenny Wolleson, Sleater Kinney, Bernie Worrell and Ivan Neville among others.  She composes for multi-media, dance, theater and film, and has collaborated on over 30 multi-media works with visual artist Danijel Zezelj, theater companies Great Small Works and Circus Amok.
