This is a journey through deep brazilian jungles of the past, merging with the cosmopolitan drive of the new milenium. Connecting the past with the futuristic rhythm. ~ Jazz, Fusion, Brazilian , Funk, Big band, experimental , free style, world music. The art of expressing a variety of afro-indian nuances through a jazz artform which embodies a deep precision in rhythmical counterpoint between the cultures and merging into a modern world concept. From cool jazz to free jazz, samba to maracatu. Many roots from Brazil like baiao, frevo, maxixe, xote, carimbo, maracatu, afoxe & forro.

Luiz Santos is a New York City based drummer, percussionist and composer. Luiz is a unique instrumentalist, composer and arranger. His piano solos are of creative excellence. Luiz Santos was born in the USA and grew up in a musical household. Both of his brazilian parents were passionate for music and inspired in Luiz a love for different rhythms. When he started playing drums at the age of 9, Luiz demonstrated talent well beyond his years.

While living in Rio De Janeiro, at age of 13, he started playing drums professionally with older musicians exploring various musical styles. Having developed his own capacity for variety, Luiz started performing with Pop Singers all over Brazil and recording television series for ‘Globo’ Brazilian TV Network playing drums and piano. Then Luiz Santos played with ‘Hermeto Pascoal Group’ with Jovino Santos, Carlos Malta, Itibere Zwarg and Marcio Bahia. However, Luiz was not content just performing. His growing passion for music propelled him to become self taught instrumentalist and composer using piano, drums and Brazilian percussion.

Luiz started composing and arranging full orchestral pieces, combining typical Jazz sounds with Classical, World percussion, Brazilian percussion and creating unique flavors of music. He also wrote compositions for everything from Jazz to Contemporary Classical, Modern Music to String Quartets. His main musical influences are Chick Corea, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Elvin Jones, Peter Erskine, Hermeto Pascoal, Egberto Gismonti, Weather Report, Pat Metheny etc...

Luiz did tours in Europe several times when he was invited to play with his own band 'Brazil Fusion' in Zurich, Switzerland, creating a new style since the 80’s that is active till this very day. From there, he performed throughout Europe, lending his talents to a number of musical projects and bands in Germany, France, Norway, Sweden, Holland, Belgium, Greece, Luxemburg and Italy.

Performing on drums in NYC, Luiz played with artists such as Richie Goods, Miles Griffith, Arnold Strickland, Greg Lewis, Richard Bona, John Benitez, Vinny Valentino, Chaka Khan, Prince, Nilson Matta, Helio Alves, Vic Juris, Monika Oliveira, Hector Martignon, Misha Tsiganov, Ron Affif, Essiet Essiet, Mark Morganelli, Mark Weinstein, Klaus Mueller, Paul Meyers, Miho Nobuzane, Shan Kenner, Ryan Berg, Dayna Stephens, Itaiguara Brandao, Cidinho Teixeira, Valtinho Anastacio, Rick Dellaratta, Misha Piatgorsky, Marcos Vigio, Enrique Haneine, Tom Lellis, Jan Leder to name a few.

Recording several CD Projects In Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Jazz with afro and modern fusion elements. Performing on drums and piano, mixing Brazilian rhythms, Caribbean, Latin, Afro Cuban, Chamber Music, and Jazz. Performing as a drummer and Brazilian percussion in New York City.

Luiz Santos played in several European Venues like Hamburg Fabrik, Quasimodo Berlin, Atlantis Basel, Mannheimer Feuerwache, Nefertitti Goteborg, Unterfahrt Munchen, Birdland, Hamburg Fabrik and so many more.
