About Me

Singer, songwriter, improviser Andrea Wolper’s newest CD, “Parallel Lives” (Jazzed Media, Sept. 2011) features her band with Michael Howell, Kris Davis, Ken Filiano, and Michael TA Thompson. Her previous releases, “The Small Hours” (VarisOne.Jazz) and her eponymous debut CD were widely praised in national and international jazz journals. Andrea’s New York performance credits include Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, JVC Jazz Festival, Cornelia St. Café, the Kitano, 55 Bar, Iridium, The Stone, and more. National and international credits include tours in Germany, Italy, South Africa, Portugal, and the U.S. In addition to leading her own group, Andrea is part of the improvising trio, TranceFormation, with pianist Connie Crothers and Ken Filiano; their live CD will be released in 2012. Another group, Objects in Mirror (with Adam Caine, guitar; Fung Chern Hwei, violin; Ken Yamazaki, percussion), blends improvisation, compositions, and text. Andrea is a former president of International Women in Jazz. An accomplished writer, her published works include two books, numerous articles, and poems. Andrea teaches singing technique and vocal workshops.
