BIO: Born in Paris in 2002, Equation has quickly established itself on Paris stages as the upcoming neo-soul band, scoring gigs in Paris hottest music spots (la Scène Bastille, le Triptyque, le Baiser salé, le House of Live, New Morning… ). Now, craving for a larger audience, Equation has successfully opened up to festivals (Airfusion Festival – Devon [UK], Auxzarbs Festival – Auxerre [FR], Solidays – Paris [FR]…) and is currently looking for a distribution deal. MUSIQUE: Equation gathers a Gospel-fed smooth, sensual voice and four musicians with influences from Jazz to Hip-hop. EQ’s compositions wave between Erykah Badu‘s neo-soul and Morcheeba’s spleen. Neosoul, our definition: The neosoul is a musical tide represented by today’s artists such as Erikah Badu, Jill Scott,... Neosoul roots are to be found within all ‘deviants’ of the hip-hop, jazz, soul world scene (Meshell Ndegeocello, D’Angelo,…). It’s all about intertwining rhythms of hip-hop and harmonies of jazz or others, into a slow velvet sound where the silk-voice will weave its blues. EQ’s music is clearly a resonance of those soul alternatives whose terms (jazz, hip-hop, blues) recall the African-American roots. Yet this echo is different because it springs from French natives who, during their own musical journey, have somehow become imaginary migrants of the New World.
