Ed Byrne is a Grammy Award winning trombonist, composer, arranger, educator, author and self-publisher who has performed and recorded with a great many of the jazz world’s leading musicians, in a career that has spanned four decades.

Born December 30, 1946 in Philadelphia, Ed Byrne is a Grammy Award winning trombonist, composer, arranger, educator, author and self-publisher who has performed and recorded with a great many of the jazz world’s leading musicians, in a career that has spanned four decades.

A Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Studies from the New England Conservatory of Music, Ed is the recipient of many honors. He was nominated Best Trombone Soloist by Latin New York magazine; his composition Fenway Funk was nominated for a Grammy Award; and won a Grammy Award the following year for Eddie Palmieri’s 1974 album, Unfinished Masterpiece, on which Ed played lead trombone.

Ed performs his original compositions with his bands Latin Jazz Evolution and Eastern Standard Time. During his 16 years on the New York City music scene, Ed performed & composed/arranged numerous recordings. He has toured the Americas, France, Germany & Sweden.

Dr. Byrne, who has been on the faculties of Berklee College, Baruch College, U of the Arts, Greenfield Community College, & the U of Rhode Island, has written many books, including his Linear Improvisation Method for jazz improvisation, all available in the ByrneJazz On-line Store.
