Study: Lyceum of Music in Krakow (piano, trumpet, bass). Then theory, composition & instrumentation at Crakow & Warsaw Music Conservatory. Jazz musician in Poland from 1956,playing with most of the Polish musicians like: Krzysztof Komeda, Andrzej Trzaskowski, Zbigniew Namyslowski a.o.. 1960 recording with Stan Getz;- 1962 rec. with Don Ellis. 1962 tour of USA with Polish quintet “The Wreckers”. Moved to Sweden in early 1963, resident of Stockholm. There playing and recording with Eje Thelin Quintet, Radiojazzgruppen, Bengt Hallberg, Jan Johansson, Putte Wickman a.m.o. Playing Golden Circle Jazz-Club (and recording for Swedish Radio) with American soloist: Ben Webster, Benny Golson(LP: Stockholm Sojourn), Jimmy Witherspoon, Anita O`Day, Dexter Gordon, Johnny Griffin, Art Farmer, Dizzy Gillespie, Stuff Smith, Don Byas, Clifford Jordan, Rolf Ericson, Phil Woods, Wayne Shorter, Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis, Harry Edison, Steve Lacy, Art Taylor and many others. Longer time with George Russell Sextet. Part of the rhythm section incl. Lasse Sjoesten p.& Al Heath dr.. 1972 on tour with Mike Urbaniak/Ula Dudziak + LP record. Left Sweden for West Berlin in 1978 for engagement in SFB/Paul Kuhn Big Band. Among musicians in the band were: Leo Wright, Rolf Ericson, Carmell Jones, Bob Burgess, Walter Norris, Ron Stephenson, Hans von Hermann a.m.o.. Since 1981 living in Switzerland, working first with radio DRS Big Band playing&recording with Jiggs Whigham, Sal Nistico, Eddie Daniels, Bill Holman, Slide Hampton, Paul Grabowsky. Later on working with Ray Bryant, Sandy Patton, Wild Bill Davison, Oscar Klein and others. Tour of Sweden 2003 with Bernt Rosengren, Ulf Andersson, Bertil Loevgren, Goeran Lindberg, Rune Carlsson. Since 1999 teacher on Jazz Schule Basel. Playing in JM Rhythm Four Group with guest soloist: Benny Bailey, James Zollar, Peter Aplleyard and recently Bucky Pizzarelli. There are other great musicians I enjoyed playing with, but it is impossible to mention all the names. After 18 years absence returning to Poland for a 50 years jubilee of 1957 Sopot Jazz Festival and performing together with Jerzy Matuszkiewicz, Jan Wroblewski, Zbigniew Namyslowski, Jerzy Tatarak - all saxophone players and with Wojtek Karolak piano and Andrzej Dabrowski drums. Before that playing Tygmont Jazz-Club for 3 nights with the same rhythm section and a.o. Janusz Muniak on tenor sax. Playing in February 2008 in Poland at “Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa”,(10th year of the festival) with “Polish Jazz Quartet”(Jan Wroblewski t.sax, Wojtek Karolak p., Roman Dylag b. & Andrzej Dabrowski dr.). Visiting Poland again in July 2009 and receaving an annual prize at Cracow Summer Jazz Festival called “Baranek Jazzowy” (”A Jazz Lamb”)and performing there in duo with Jarek Smietana on guitar. October/November 2009 tour of Switzerland with JM Rhythm Four plus Peter Appleyard vibes and Bucky Pizzarelli guitar. Preparing now for two concerts, 18/19 December 2009 at Bird`s Eye Jazz Club in Basel, Switzerland. It will feature Roman Dylag Quartet with Thomas Dobler vibes, Francis Coletta guitar and Marcel Papaux drums playing jazz standards and seven of my own compositions.
