About Me
Belgian Jazz guitarist Jeanfrancois Prins currently resides in Berlin
with frequent visits to New York City. He has spent his adult life as a professional
musician, arranger and producer; working with many Jazz giants,
including Toots Thielemans, Lee Konitz, Kenny Wheeler, Gary Bartz,
Eddie Gomez, Randy Brecker, and Mal Waldron.
Teaching in Berlin’s music conservatories, he has led the Jazz Guitar
Departments for over a decade, and gives international workshops and
master-classes.
Prins has recorded six CDs as a leader, the latest one El Gaucho was released on
Challenge Records in 2012. He is the musical director for
projects including the Judy Niemack Group, and the Belgian All Stars
Tribute to Miles Davis. Jeanfrancois also composes original music for
movie soundtracks and television.
His current projects as a leader include his New York Trio featuring
Victor Lewis, “All Strings Attached” featuring a classical string 4tet,
his “Colliding Universes” 6tet, and his new Blade Runner project.
As a co-leader: Belgian All-Stars Tribute to Miles Davis, Andy Middleton
Quartet.
As a featured soloist: Berlin Jazz Orchestra, Meike Goosman Quintet,
Putter Smith Quartet, Lisa Werlinder and Band.
As a musical director: Judy Niemack Band, Indiva Jazz (Judy Niemack
& Sangeeta Bandhyopadhyay), Katalina Segura & Band, Cosmo Jacques Brel Project.
