Shambhu Vineberg

Soothing Guitar for a Peaceful World

About Me

Shambhu (pronounced 'SHOHM-boo') transforms stillness and silence into calming sounds. He's an acclaimed jazz guitarist and composer who the Marin Independent Journal called “a consummate guitarist”. Common Ground says, “Shambhu is at once precise, skilled, sensitive and inventive way beyond the norm.”

Shambhu's relaxing music eases the busy minds of students, yogis, moms and workers. He worked with Grammy winning record producer Will Ackerman on his 2010 debut album, Sacred Love, which reached #1 on the ZMR (Zone Music Reporter) New Age music chart. Shambhu's second album, Dreaming of Now, also produced with Ackerman, reached #2 on ZMR, and won Best Contemporary Instrumental Album at the ZMR Music Awards (2014). His third release, Soothe, reached #11 on ZMR and saw two songs move into rotation on Sirius XM.

His latest release, Lilac Skies, has been called “acoustic six-string bliss....everything I enjoy in one nice package, seriously good musicianship, some cool jazz, blues, and just enough new age for a kick back and relaxing time, with a definitive groove.” (New Age Music Reviews)

Shambhu is featured on Whitney Houston’s Whitney, Jeff Oster's Next, Ricochet – The Echoes Living Room Concerts (Vol 20), two Will Ackerman compilations, The Gathering II, and The Gathering I (ZMR Award for “Best Album of the Year”), The Guitar - The Best of New Age Reviews, and on Ann Licater's Doorway to a Dream.

Shambhu also played and recorded with Carlos Santana, Paul McCandless, Tony Levin, George Brooks, Premik Russell Tubbs, Grammy-winning producer/drummer Narada Michael Walden, and E-street saxist Clarence Clemons, among others.

My Jazz Story

I was first exposed to jazz as kid listening to Buddy Rich and West Side Story. As a young guitarist studying jazz, hearing the big band exposed me to the many sounds of the big band, improvisation, arranging, and advanced chord harmonies. When I left high school I became a huge fan of the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Larry Coryell, Chicago and the emerging rock/jazz fusion bands. At the same time, I was listening to Cecil Taylor, Andrew Cyrille and exploring free-jazz while attending the Manhattan School of Music. I studied jazz arranging and harmony from Dr. Maury Deutsch in New York.
