My Jazz Story

I love jazz because it is music for the mind, body and soul. I was first exposed to jazz when I started visiting Mike Chadwick's Decoy Records in Manchester (UK) in the late 1980s and then started listening to his Saturday night show 'The Cutting Edge' on Jazz FM. The best concert I ever attended was the Esbjorn Svensson Trio at London's Pizza Express Jazz Club in October 1999... amazing and sublime. The first jazz record I bought was a Best of Blue Note sampler. My advice to new listeners: start with some Blue Note albums--Lou Donaldson, Hank Mobley, Stanley Turrentine--and then come right up to date by listening to Mike Chadwick's European Jazz Union show on soulandjazz.com. Without him knowing it, Mike has been my mentor for the best part of 30 years and continues to educate me and introduce me to new great new artists.
