About Me

Founder, Producer and Co-Host of Modern Jazz Today, Jeff Williams began his career in music as well, a composer, 6, 7, 8 and 9-string guitarist, bassist (acoustic and electric), published author, and educator. Williams holds a bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Composition from Berklee College of Music. As a freelance musician Williams performed throughout the United States also in the trenches with a multitude of jazz groups. In addition, he studied with master educator and jazz guru, Charlie Banacos. Williams’ compositions have been used by the US Government for their ensembles; he is hired by numerous entities for transcriptions, orchestrations, arrangements and is a published composer. His work has been featured on soundtracks for TV, promos and films.

My Jazz Story

I love jazz because I am a Berklee College of Music Graduate, jazz has always been my go to music. I attended on a Performance Scholarship and graduated in 1999.I was first exposed to jazz at a very young age, my parents only played, classical, jazz and gospel music in the home.I have met countless musicians over the years, and played with them too. What I love most about musicians is their desire to create.The best show I ever attended was: That is hard to say; I view each show as a new adventure, I truly have enjoyed them all. The first jazz record I bought was Wes Montgomery Boss Guitar.My advice to new listeners: Modern Jazz Today (modernjazztoday.com) plays a wide breadth of jazz from fusion to bop and beyond, my goal is to cover all styles of jazz to celebrate the diversity jazz has to offer.MJT is syndicated on 42 terrestrial stations, and 2 online stations in 3 countries.
