Veteran Detroit-area saxophonist.
Dan White began playing saxophone at the age of ten and began his professional career at seventeen. While at Wayne State University in the mid-eighties he was a member of the Jazz Lab Band directed by the legendary Matt Michaels. He earned Bachelor and Master of Music degrees at Wayne and was an instrumental music teacher/band director for 30 years. He has performed and/or recorded with Martha Reeves, Mary Wells, Mitch Ryder, Stewart Franke, Johnnie Bassett, and RJ Spangler. He’s also played with stalwart Detroit bands such as Sun Messengers, Blues Insurgents, Millionaires, and Regular Boys – the perennial horn band favorites with whom he spent twelve years on tenor sax. Dan stepped out of the Motor City music scene in 2002, and re-emerged in 2017 as founder of the Eastside Jazz Quartet.
