My Jazz Story

I love jazz because it's improvised music, free and, thus, more creative in my opinion than any other genre. I was first exposed to jazz around 1968. I met a fair number of great jazz musicians including the likes of Chick Corea, Michal Urbaniak, Tomasz Stanko, Jeremy Pelt, or David Sanchez. The best show I ever attended... well, one of the best, was Chick Corea Trio with Avishai Cohen & Jeff Ballard around 2000 at Blues Alley in Washington, DC. But there were so many of those, another one, very memorable was Tomasz Stanko with his "Polish Trio" of Marcin Wasilewski, Slawomir Kurkiewicz and Michal Miskiewicz, probably around 2006 in Baltimore's An die Musik. The first jazz record I bought was "First Time" by Duke Ellington & Count Basie bands. That was in/about 1967. Vinyl. Don't have it anymore. My advice to new listeners... listen very attentively and be patient. It takes time to fully appreciate jazz.
