Nicolas Herrera, musician, guitarist.

About Me

I´m an Argentinian musician based in Barcelona, Spain. I grew up in San Juan, Argentina, a small city next to the Andes Mountains in the west part of the country. There I began studying classical guitar at age 12, and started playing regular gigs on electric guitar by age 15, after studying for several years at the Music Conservatory of the city. In 2000 I moved to Barcelona to continue my career in music and began writing my own material as well. In 2014 I earned a degree in Jazz Guitar after attending the Escuela Superior de Música de Cataluña, “ESMUC”. As a renowned guitar performer, I´ve had the chance to work as a freelance artist in different kind of music productions in Europe, South America and even China and Costa Rica. Also possess more than fifteen years of progressive experience in guitar teaching. After many years recording as a sideman on many different projects, my debut album, “Kala”, is about to be released, where I put together an incredibly fine, yet distinctive quintet, assembled with some of the most relevant musicians at the local scene, and very close friend of mine as well! The recorded music goes from some originals songs to a few arrangements of mine, which are based on the music of the very well known Argentinian artist Atahualpa Yupanqui. Here´s a kind of tribute to the Master, whom changed the way folk music was conceived until the moment. Plus the love he possessed for music and the guitar in particular, which obviously is something we share! The record, to my point of view, introduces an intimate and warm kind of music, and I think it is an excellent opportunity to get to my “musical universe”, where Jazz and Argentinian folk gets together in a beautiful combination.
