I grew up overseas then moved to the states. I was surprised to discover Americans don't treasure and appreciate their own original art form and contribution to the world near as much as those of us not born here do. This astounds me and amazes me. If you're surrounded by gems constantly you must lose an appreciation for their true depth and beauty, I guess.
