About Me
My Jazz Story
I love jazz because it is America's Classical Music. Often imitated, never duplicated, and because I am a singer and great fan of the jazz standards of the Great American Songbook. I was first exposed to jazz growing up at home in Los Angeles in the 1950's and in the popular culture where there were many great singers and performers on the radio, television, and film. When there was a great song, everyone recorded it with their own arrangement. It was the golden era of great Singers, Musicians, and Arrangers. I have met Wynton Marsalis, the Heath Brothers, Ted Curson, Joe Henderson, Arturo Sandoval, Benny Green, Billy Childs, Kurt Elling, Phoebe Jacobs of the Louis Armstrong House Museum, and many more... The first jazz record I bought was Kind of Blue by Miles Davis. My advice to new listeners... Start with the Blue Note recordings.
