My Jazz Story

I love jazz because...it comes in all forms...small groups, big bands and I love the sounds be they bluesy or loud like the Stan Kenton band. Then there are the vocalists..from Joe Williams to and June Christy to Sinatra and Harry Prime who I met back in 1950 while following the Ralph Flanagan orchestra. The great Moe Kaufman was part the Glenn Miller style reed section that Flanagan successfully re-created. I was truly one of those non-dancers who always stood up front & listened to the music. Then there was Peggy King who could sing with the best of the big band female vocalists such as Helen Forrest, and Anita O'Day.
