Bobby Selvaggio Bio
Since growing up in the Cleveland area, Bobby Selvaggio has
established himself as one of the top jazz musicians in the area. Bobby
has , in the summer of 2006, created a jazz studies program called the
Aurora Center for Jazz Studies, which he is the director of. This program
allows Bobby to share his knowledge of the saxophone and jazz music,
teaching classes in improvisation, composition, jazz history, and jazz
ensembles. He also maintains a saxophone studio at the Aurora School
of Music. Bobby has also shown his dedication in teaching young jazz
musicians by giving clinics and master classes at Colleges and High
Schools throughout Northeast Ohio and at St. Francis Xavier University
in Nova Scotia, Canada.
After receiving a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance from Kent
State University, Bobby went to New York City and earned a masters
degree in Jazz Performance on a full scholarship from Manhattan School
of Music. While in NYC he studied with such jazz greats as Joe Lovano,
Bobby Watson, Dick Oatts, and Maria Schneider. He has performed
with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, the Joe Lovano Nonet, Kenny
Werner, Ryan Kisor, Dan Wall, Jamey Haddad, and Aretha Franklin as
well as many other artists.
Since moving back to Cleveland with his wife Chelsea and son Julian,
Bobby has recorded four cd’s with notables Dan Wall on Piano and Chris
Howes on violin. His most recent CD, which will be released July of 2007
by Playscape Recordings, features Kenny Werner on piano, Jamey
Haddad on drums, Ben Street on bass, and Paul Tynan on trumpet. He
has toured throughout the USA and Canada with his group the Bobby
Selvaggio Quartet. Bobby is also a published writer in The Saxophone
Journal with an article on jazz improvisation and he is a Conn-Selmer
