About Me

His debut album Ausente (2013) was very acclaimed in Portugal, taking part in the selected lists of jazz critics and specialized journalists as album of the year or the 13 must-have albums of Portuguese jazz, important rewards in a very discreet but plentiful path. Pedro Neves is stated as a musician with a “tasteful sense of melody and a marvelous balance between rhythmic and lyric elan” (TimeOut magazine). His work has caught the attention of the portuguese and international press, and has established himself an audience in Japan, after Ausente was included in the prestigious Yasukuni Terasima’s Jazz Bar collectanea. After this he has recorded 05:21 (2016), Murmuration (2019) and Hindrances (2022) as leader of Pedro Neves Trio, and many others alongside Lucia Martinez, Mariana Vergueiro, Bruno Macedo, Sónia Pinto and Puzzle3. His passion for teaching keeps him regularly working with future generations of musicians at Conservatório de Música da Jobra and Conservatório de Música de Aveiro, which led him towards his master ́s degree in musical education.

My Jazz Story

The word jazz is so big it can fit everything you can imagine. I discovered that during the learning and listening process. As soon as I realized it, I decided i had to be part of it. Jazz is probably the best art form to express music, emotions, and ideas.
