JOHN BIRCHARD

About Me

I am host of a new jazz show on the internet called “CyberJazzToday” at www.cyberjazztoday.com It's a mix of old and new recordings, small groups, big bands, vocalists, duos, trios and quartets. I have a half-century of broadcast experience, starting with Armed Forces Radio in Fairbanks, Alaska. My first job after college was as a jazz disc jockey in Hartford, CT (WCCC-FM). I later was a producer, talk show host, free-lance writer/broadcaster, news director and finally a news broadcaster for the Voice of America in Washington, DC, as well as automotive editor. Following my retirement from VOA in 2008, I wrote a book - Jock Around the Clock, the story of history's first all-sports radio network. And now I'm host of CyberJazzToday. The show has a unique feature called Jazz Goes to College, in which we single out a university-level music school for recognition. So far, we have performed the service for Berklee College of Music, Manhattan School of Music, the University of North Texas, the University of Maryland, Thornton School at USC, Jacobs School at Indiana University and Webster University in St Louis.
