My Jazz Story

I love jazz because it has all the elements for a totally satisfying experience: history, spirituality, intelligence-challenge, groove, nice melodies, everything! I was first exposed to jazz when I was a teenager growing up in Mexico City, and I followed the advice of local jazz singer who introduced me to the music of Sarah Vaughan. I met Alex Acuña, Abraham Laboriel, Justo Almario, Carlitos del Puerto, Bob Shepard, Mauricio Maestro, Kay Lira, Nicola Són, etc. My older brother gave me my first LP. It was Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 when I was 12 years old.

My House Concert Story

We, Javier and Gloria Arjona, hosted house concerts in Long Beach/Lakewood, CA, since 2008. We have been able to bring great jazz personalities, such as Alex Acuña, Abraham Laboriel, Justo Almario, Carlitos del Puerto, Bon Shepard, Mauricio Maestro, from Brazil, Kay Lira, and from France, Nicola Són. Our experience hosting house concerts has been very enriching! During the Pandemic, we moved to Temecula and took our music with us (still doing summer house concerts in Lakewood, CA). Startin September, we'll be hosting monthly Brazilian and Latin Jazz concerts at the beautiful The Merc, in OldTown Temecula (3rd Friday of each month, 7:30 PM)
