Josh Nelson: D+N+A: David/Nelson/Agreement

Read "D+N+A: David/Nelson/Agreement" reviewed by C. Michael Bailey

Vocalist Mon David and pianist Josh Nelson's D+N+A: David/Nelson/Agreement has two recorded antecedents in John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman (Impulse!, 1963) and Emilia Vancini's And If You Fall, You Fall (Espira, 2020). This new release favors the former in that David is a baritone voice as was Hartman and his repertoire on D+N+A is one of jazz standards, some more standard than others. Mayita Dinos: The Garden Is My Stage

Read "The Garden Is My Stage" reviewed by C. Michael Bailey

On first hearing it sounds a bit too ...

Cathy Segal-Garcia and Yoonseung Cho: Bohemian

Read "Bohemian" reviewed by Nicholas F. Mondello

The classic vocal-piano format can present itself in a myriad of ways, ranging from a more common singer-with-accompanist experience, with one melodically active and the other harmonically supportive, to a more cerebral, highly energized interplay and exploration of musical ideas. Bohemian, featuring vocalist Cathy Segal-Garcia and pianist Yoonseung Cho is an exquisite example of the latter. As the first collaboration between these two fine artists, this recording is a musical kaleidoscope of vocal sound textures, all swirling ...

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
