Steve Howe Trio: Travelling

Read "Travelling" reviewed by Bruce Lindsay

The boundary between progressive rock and jazz is a fluid one--indeed, it's increasingly unrecognizable, as some of the finest musicians around move effortlessly between and within the genres. Thus Robert Fripp, one of prog's most influential players, can be found in the company of jazz musician Theo Travis, who is himself a member of Soft Machine Legacy and Gong. Steve Howe, another prog rock guitar great, is equally adept at moving across the genres. But while Fripp and Travis inhabit ...

Steve Howe: Great Guitars and Great Guitarists

Read "Steve Howe: Great Guitars and Great Guitarists" reviewed by Bruce Lindsay

Steve Howe has been a major figure in contemporary music for over 40 years. He first came to international prominence with Yes; he's a key figure in rock supergroup Asia; and his distinctive guitar style makes him one of the most recognizable players on the scene. His love of jazz is less well-known but it has been a crucial part of his life since he was a teenager. His work with the Steve Howe Trio now gives him a chance ...

Read "Steve Howe Trio at Norwich Arts Centre, UK" reviewed by Bruce Lindsay

Steve Howe Trio Norwich Arts Centre Norwich, UK March 15, 2010 In the world of rock and progressive music--where technology is too often used just because it's there, and where stadium tours offer the only opportunities to hear the genre's giants--a chance to listen to a genuinely influential guitarist in an intimate trio session is a rare event. So when rock guitar great Steve Howe came to Norwich with his trio, ...

The so-called Great Guitars was a touring trio of jazz masters: Herb Ellis, Charlie Byrd, and Barney Kessel. Ellis jokingly called their title “modest," but it was accurate, and it remained so when Martin Taylor, a naturalised Scotsman a generation younger, filled in after Kessel was incapacitated.

Taylor's here, but the title's especially precise because it refers to the instruments that he and Steve Howe play. Howe's background might be partly in rock, but it's wholly in an obsession with ...

Steve Howe & Martin Taylor: Masterpiece Guitars

Read "Masterpiece Guitars" reviewed by Ken Hohman

Truly a guitarist's guitar recording, Masterpiece Guitars is a showcase for the vintage guitar collection of curator and collector Scott Chinery, brought to life by the duo of formidable British acoustic guitarist Martin Taylor and Yes lead guitarist Steve Howe.

While you might be expecting to hear an acoustic version of “Roundabout" or “Starship Trooper" more than any jazz songs, Masterpiece Guitars offers just shades of the former and quite a few of the latter. Throughout an eclectic program, a ...

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
