Sebastiano Meloni: Moods and Sketches – 12 Improvisations for Piano
Dopo una serie di album condivisi con altri musicisti (fra i quali Paul Dunmall, Tony Oxley e Roberto Dani), il pianista cagliaritano Sebastiano Meloni salta decisamente il fosso confezionando un lavoro totalmente solitario, dodici improvvisazioni in cui ha modo di espandersi la sua predilezione per un periodare che, viene da dire, prima ancora che dai grandi monologhi pianistici di sponda jazzistica, trae linfa e ispirazione dalla più accreditata letteratura contemporanea (eurocolta, se preferite).

Tutto ciò appare evidente procedendo nell'ascolto, nel corso del quale accanto a momenti magari anche un po' scolastici, attraversati da un'eleganza un tantino asettica, si segnalano episodi più densi e ispirati, tipo "Mood Swings," ritmicamente pulsante, "Stream," mosso e nervoso, "Mutations," a sua volta vitale (sono onestamente questi i brani che preferiamo, indugiando gli altri in aree talora fin troppo esangui, estenuate), e "Waves," a tratti persino tumultuoso.

Un lavoro, sia quel che sia, di estremo rigore e assoluta onestà intellettuale.
